Afghanistan, July 27 -- Iran's Alamut Fortress and six associated historic castles in Qazvin province have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, following a decision by the World Heritage Committee at its 48th session in Busan, South Korea.
The inscription recognizes the seven fortifications as an example of defensive architecture and strategic organization shaped by the mountainous landscape of the Alamut region.
The listed sites are Alamut, Lambsar, Nowizar Shah, Shams-Kalaye, Qastin Lar, Shirkuh and Ilan castles. They are located in the eastern and western Alamut valleys and along the southern slopes of the Alborz mountain range.
