Afghanistan, June 9 -- United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan Acting Head Georgette Gagnon told the UN Security Council that Afghanistan continues to face mounting economic, humanitarian and human rights challenges, with women and girls bearing the brunt of the crisis.
Briefing the council in New York on Monday, Gagnon said her visits across Afghanistan revealed widespread concerns among Afghans over worsening economic conditions, humanitarian needs and restrictions on fundamental rights.
