Afghanistan, June 3 -- More than 100,000 people have been displaced in eastern Afghanistan following escalating tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, with women and girls among the most affected, according to a new report by UN Women.

The agency said the displacement was caused by airstrikes, shelling, drone attacks and ground clashes in border areas, forcing thousands of families to flee their homes.

According to the report, women and girls face severe economic, social and psychological challenges. Data from the Afghanistan Gender Coordination Group showed that more than two-thirds of women in 10 affected provinces had lost their sources of income, while three-quarters reported increased difficulty accessing food.
