Afghanistan, Aug. 28 -- Fourteen UN Security Council members declared Gaza's famine a "man-made crisis," urging Israel to lift restrictions and enforce a ceasefire, while the United States dismissed famine assessments.

The United Nations Security Council, except for the United States, has declared that famine in Gaza is a "man-made crisis" and urged an immediate ceasefire.

During a session on Wednesday, August 27, fourteen Council members issued a joint statement stressing that the use of starvation as a weapon of war is prohibited under international law.

The members called on Israel to lift all restrictions on humanitarian aid and to agree to a permanent and unconditional ceasefire.
