Afghanistan, Aug. 19 -- The United Nations has announced that at least 383 humanitarian workers have been killed worldwide since the start of 2024, marking what it called a "shocking record."
In a report released on Tuesday, August 19, to mark World Humanitarian Day, the UN urged greater protection for civilians and aid staff in conflict zones.
The report noted that in the first eight months of this year alone, 265 aid workers came under direct attack while carrying out their duties.
It stressed that most of the victims were local staff serving their own communities, targeted both while on duty and even in their homes.
In addition, 308 aid workers were injured, 125 kidnapped, and 45 detained during the same period.
