Afghanistan, Aug. 20 -- Ukraine received 1,000 soldiers' bodies from Russia in exchange for 19 Russians, highlighting rare cooperation amid war and the devastating human toll of ongoing conflict.
Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for Prisoners of War announced on Tuesday that Russia has handed over the bodies of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers. In exchange, Kyiv returned the remains of 19 Russian troops.
The exchange is part of a limited humanitarian mechanism that has persisted despite the ongoing war. Prisoner swaps and the repatriation of bodies remain among the few areas where Moscow and Kyiv still cooperate.
