Afghanistan, July 12 -- The United Arab Emirates said late Saturday that its air defense systems were intercepting missiles and drones it said had been launched from Iran, as the military confrontation between Tehran and Washington intensified across the Gulf.

The UAE Ministry of Defense said on July 11 that the country's air defense systems had been activated to counter what it described as incoming Iranian missiles and drones.

According to a ministry statement cited by Al Jazeera, explosions heard in several parts of the UAE were the result of interception operations rather than confirmed impacts on the ground.
