Afghanistan, June 3 -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington will closely examine members of Iran's delegation attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will not allow individuals with alleged links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to enter as part of the team.

According to Reuters, Rubio told U.S. lawmakers that while the United States has no objection to the participation of Iran national football team, officials suspected of having connections to the IRGC would face additional scrutiny.

"What we will not allow is for them to include individuals who have nothing to do with sports and are connected to the IRGC or similar organizations," Rubio said.
