Afghanistan, June 16 -- A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California on Monday, killing all eight people on board, including military personnel, government civilians and contractors. The aircraft went down during a routine test mission at about 11:20 a.m. local time, and officials said the crash was not survivable.
The U.S. Air Force said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash. Boeing confirmed that two of its employees were among those killed. The aircraft was reportedly participating in a radar modernization test as part of efforts to extend the B-52's operational life.
