Afghanistan, June 15 -- The United States and Iran have agreed on a preliminary framework aimed at ending months of conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and paving the way for broader negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme and sanctions relief, officials from both countries said.

Reuters reported on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a framework agreement had been reached, with Pakistan playing a mediating role in the talks. The memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.
