A powerful typhoon has struck eastern Taiwan, killing at least 14 people and leaving 129 missing after a reservoir dam burst and flooded the town of Guangfu in Hualien.

The disaster unfolded late Tuesday when a dam holding nearly 91 million tons of water collapsed, unleashing a torrent that engulfed most of Guangfu. Officials confirmed all the victims and missing persons are from the devastated town.
