Afghanistan, Aug. 22 -- Two Afghan nationals were killed in an armed confrontation with Tajik border guards after allegedly crossing into Tajikistan illegally during a suspected drug smuggling operation, authorities said.
Tajikistan's State Committee for National Security said the incident occurred in the Fathobod border area of Khatlon Province, along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier. According to the committee, the two Afghan men had entered Tajik territory illegally and were involved in drug trafficking.
