Afghanistan, April 22 -- Trump says the US has closed the Strait of Hormuz, while extending the ceasefire and maintaining pressure on Iran for negotiations.
Donald Trump said the United States has "fully closed" the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Iran is seeking to reopen the strategic waterway despite public statements to the contrary.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed Iranian officials only say they support closure of the strait "to save face," arguing that Tehran depends heavily on the route for oil revenues.
"Iran does not want the Strait closed; they want it open so they can make $500 million a day," he wrote, adding that closure would significantly hurt Iran's economy.
