Afghanistan, July 5 -- U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States could have targeted senior Iranian officials gathered for the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei but chose not to do so because it wanted to preserve the possibility of negotiations with Tehran.
In an interview with Axios published on Saturday, Trump said the gathering of Iran's political and military leadership during the funeral presented what he described as a military opportunity.
"They are all there. One shot, and we can take them all out, but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with," Trump told Axios.
