Afghanistan, May 14 -- Donald Trump expressed optimism about future ties between the United States and China during high-level talks with Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday.
According to Fox News, Trump described Xi as a "great leader" and said he was proud to call the Chinese president a friend.
"It is an honor to be with you, an honor to be your friend, and relations between China and the United States will be better than ever," Trump said during the meeting.
The talks focused on trade tariffs, tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing conflict involving Iran, U.S. officials and media reports said.
