Afghanistan, Aug. 15 -- U.S. President Donald Trump traveled to Alaska to meet Vladimir Putin, framing the talks as a critical opportunity to push for a Ukraine ceasefire and improved U.S.-Russia relations.

U.S. President Donald Trump departed for Alaska on Friday to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, warning that "very severe consequences" await Russia if it refuses to agree to end the war in Ukraine.

Speaking before his flight, Trump stressed that both Kyiv and Moscow must take steps toward peace, saying, "I want a ceasefire and the best possible deal for both sides. As you know, one hand cannot clap alone."
