Afghanistan, March 6 -- U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday and announced Senator Markwayne Mullin as her replacement.
Donald Trump announced that he has removed Kristi Noem from her post as head of the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Trump said in a social media post that Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin will replace Noem, with the leadership change set to take effect on March 31.
The U.S. president said Noem will instead serve as a special envoy for a new security initiative called the "Shield of the Americas," focused on security cooperation across the Western Hemisphere.
