Afghanistan, July 2 -- Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has appointed 70 members, including prominent actress Rouzaina Lazkani, to complete the country's transitional parliament, according to Syrian state television.
The appointments finalize the 210-member legislature established for Syria's transitional period following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad. Officials said the newly formed parliament is expected to hold its first session next week.
According to Syria's election authorities, the latest appointments were intended to promote gender and ethnic balance within the legislature. The newly appointed group includes 15 women and 13 former political prisoners who were detained during Assad's rule.
