Afghanistan, Feb. 20 -- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said the European Union has suffered massive losses from sanctions imposed on Moscow.

Speaking to Izvestia, Grushko said direct losses and lost profits for the bloc amount to between €1.5 trillion and €2 trillion.

He said Russia would assess how to respond to any new EU restrictions, stressing that Moscow's priority is not retaliation but ensuring its own sanctions are effective.

The European Union has proposed a new sanctions package that would include a full ban on maritime services for Russian oil exports.
