Afghanistan, Oct. 27 -- Rebel RSF forces have captured the last Sudanese army stronghold in Darfur, prompting growing fears of mass killings and renewed ethnic violence against civilians.
Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) say they have seized control of El Fasher, the last major city in Darfur still held by the Sudanese army, intensifying fears of large-scale violence against civilians. The announcement came on Sunday as the conflict in western Sudan entered yet another dangerous phase.
The RSF declared in a statement that the city had been "liberated" from what it called mercenaries and militias aligned with the "terrorist Sudanese army." The claim has not yet been acknowledged or denied by Sudan's military leadership in Khartoum.
