Afghanistan, Sept. 16 -- Panama told the United Nations Security Council that Afghan women's rights to education, employment and participation in public life cannot be portrayed as being in conflict with Afghanistan's culture, identity or religion, urging the Taliban to reverse policies that have excluded women and girls from society.
Addressing the Security Council during a session on Afghanistan, Panama's representative said the systematic exclusion of women from public life is one of the country's most pressing human rights challenges. The remarks came as the UN continues to warn that restrictions imposed by the Taliban have deepened Afghanistan's political isolation and humanitarian crisis.
