Afghanistan, May 10 -- Pakistani officials said at least 15 security personnel were killed after a suicide car bombing and gun assault targeted a police checkpoint in the northwestern district of Bannu late on Saturday.

The attack took place in the Fatehkhel area of Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where militants first rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the police post before opening fire on security forces, local police officials said.

Images circulating from the scene showed the checkpoint heavily damaged, with debris, burned vehicles and collapsed walls scattered around the site.
