Afghanistan, Oct. 11 -- Pakistan has said it does not seek an arms race with India but will maintain its nuclear deterrence policy and military capability to defend itself against perceived security threats.

Tahir Andrabi, Pakistan's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, made the remarks during the United Nations General Assembly's First Committee debate on disarmament and international security on October 9. He said Islamabad opposed an arms race in South Asia but would preserve its ability to respond to what it considers threats from India's expanding military capabilities.
