Afghanistan, July 19 -- Transit trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan fell 93% in fiscal 2026 as Kabul expanded trade routes through Iran and Central Asia.
Transit trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has fallen by approximately 93% in Pakistan's 2026 fiscal year as Afghanistan increasingly shifted imports and exports through Iran and Central Asia, according to Pakistan's Dawn newspaper, citing the World Bank's Afghanistan Economic Monitor and economic analysts.
The report said Afghanistan-bound transit cargo moving through Pakistan dropped to 11,592 containers in fiscal 2026, down from nearly 89,000 containers in fiscal 2021, before the Taliban returned to power.
