Afghanistan, Aug. 10 -- Over the past month, authorities have publicly flogged more than 80 men and women across Afghanistan, amid ongoing concerns over human rights abuses and legal transparency.
The Taliban's Supreme Court says 31 people were publicly flogged over the past week in the provinces of Maidan Wardak, Kabul, Zabul, Kapisa, Baghlan, and Kunduz for various alleged offences.
In its weekly report issued on Saturday, August 9, the court did not disclose the identities or detailed charges of those punished. However, separate statements last week confirmed that 14 people, including one woman, were flogged in Kabul and Zabul on accusations of selling and trafficking alcohol, narcotic tablets, and engaging in extramarital relations.
