Afghanistan, Aug. 19 -- The United Nations humanitarian office in Afghanistan has called for continued international support as growing humanitarian needs and a severe funding shortfall threaten the delivery of lifesaving assistance to vulnerable Afghans.

Amy Martin, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan, made the appeal on Wednesday, August 19, marking World Humanitarian Day. She commended humanitarian workers in Afghanistan for their courage and reaffirmed the UN's commitment to supporting people across the country.
