Afghanistan, July 30 -- At least nine police officers, including a senior police official, were killed and 28 others injured after militants attacked a police checkpost in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Pakistani authorities.
The attack took place at the Khazana Banda police checkpost, where militants launched an assault before engaging police reinforcements sent to the area, according to Dawn. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed said police mounted a counterattack and killed 15 militants during an intense exchange of fire.
DSP Diyar Khan was among the nine police officers killed, according to the provincial police chief. The fighting also left 28 other police personnel injured.
