German police said on Tuesday that Iris Stalzer, the newly elected mayor of the western city of Herdecke, is in critical condition after a knife attack at her home. The 57-year-old was found with severe stab wounds to her neck and abdomen late Monday and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
