Afghanistan, Sept. 2 -- Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban's spokesman, said on Wednesday that the group is seeking to establish and expand political and economic relations with the United States

Mujahid made the remarks Wednesday, Sept. 2, at a news conference in Kabul focused on the Taliban's achievements. He said efforts to establish and expand political and economic ties with Washington had been and were continuing.

Mujahid said closer relations with the United States would benefit the Taliban because of Washington's influence in global affairs. He added that the Taliban's foreign ministry was making "serious" efforts to expand relations not only with the United States but also with other countries.
