Afghanistan, June 1 -- Russia says its newly signed agreement with Kabul will initially focus on repairing and restoring Soviet-era military equipment already in Afghanistan.

Russia's special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said on Monday that a recently signed military-technical agreement with the Taliban provides a legal framework for future cooperation and contracts between the two sides.

Speaking to Russian state media, Kabulov said the agreement is primarily focused on the repair and restoration of Russian and Soviet-era military equipment currently used in Afghanistan, but could also support broader military-technical cooperation in the future.
