Afghanistan, Oct. 17 -- The Afghanistan Journalists' Union condemned the killing of journalist Abdul Zahir Safi in a Kabul airstrike and called for an immediate, transparent investigation.

The Afghan Independent Journalists' Union (AIJU) has called for an immediate investigation after Abdul Zahir Safi, a media employee with the Taliban-run Ministry of Information and Culture, was killed in an airstrike in Kabul on Thursday.

According to his family, Safi died when an airstrike hit a residential area of the Afghanistan capital shortly after a temporary ceasefire was announced between the Taliban and Pakistan.
