Afghanistan, Oct. 16 -- The Taliban's Supreme Court said on Thursday that a man convicted of killing two people in Afghanistan's Badghis province was executed in public.

In a statement, the court said the execution took place in the central sports stadium of Badghis province on Thursday morning.

The man, identified as Ismail, son of Ibrahim, was convicted of murdering two local residents named Dost Mohammad and Gulbarga, the statement added.

The death sentence was carried out on the order of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, who has approved several executions since returning to power in 2021.
