Afghanistan, Sept. 24 -- Iran has executed an Afghan citizen in Taybad prison, rights group Hengaw reported, warning that over 1,000 executions this year include 65 Afghan nationals.

An Afghan citizen was among three prisoners executed in Iran this week, the human rights organisation Hengaw reported on Tuesday.

The execution took place on Sunday at the central prison in Taybad, Razavi Khorasan province. The Afghan, identified only by the surname "Ahmadi," had been convicted on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by Iran's judiciary.

Hengaw noted that Iranian officials and state media have not confirmed or publicly reported on the executions, reflecting a broader pattern of opacity in capital punishment cases.
