Afghanistan, July 9 -- Iran accused some European countries on Wednesday of supporting recent U.S. military strikes after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte described the attacks as necessary, warning that governments providing political or logistical support could bear international legal and political responsibility.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Rutte's comments suggested that some European governments had backed the U.S. military operation instead of maintaining neutrality. He said countries that assisted the strikes politically or logistically should also accept responsibility for their legal and political consequences under international law.
