Afghanistan, Aug. 19 -- India's engagement with Afghanistan's Taliban authorities remains focused on practical, humanitarian and development priorities rather than political recognition, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Tuesday.

Jaiswal said India's relationship with the Afghanistan people was longstanding and that New Delhi would continue to engage with Afghans and support their needs. His comments came after an Indian Foreign Ministry official attended an event in New Delhi marking five years since the Taliban returned to power.
