Afghanistan, Aug. 25 -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 1,328 people in Virginia and Maryland during a two-week immigration enforcement operation focused largely on suburbs around Washington, D.C., the Department of Homeland Security said.
The operation, known as Operation Safe Community, Washington, D.C., ran from August 1 to August 14 and resulted in nearly 100 arrests a day across the two states. Almost 400 of those arrested had either been convicted of or charged with crimes in the United States, according to DHS.
