Afghanistan, Aug. 7 -- Hiroshima, marking 80 years since the atomic bombing, warned of the growing nuclear threat and urged world leaders to pursue disarmament and global peace efforts.
Thousands gathered in Hiroshima, Japan, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the world's first atomic bombing and to honor the victims of the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The solemn ceremony also served as a warning against the continued threat of nuclear weapons.
Hiroshima's mayor, Kazumi Matsui, urged world leaders to abandon nuclear deterrence and visit Hiroshima to witness the devastation of atomic warfare firsthand. "Please come to Hiroshima and see the reality of the atomic bombing with your own eyes," he said.
