Afghanistan, Oct. 6 -- Germany has accused Russia of orchestrating recent drone incursions over Europe that disrupted flights, stranded thousands of passengers, and raised serious regional security concerns.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Sunday that Russia is likely behind a wave of drone incursions recently detected over Germany and other parts of Europe, which have disrupted air travel and raised new security concerns.

Merz told reporters that the frequency of unidentified drone flights over European airspace was "unprecedented, even compared to the Cold War." He said, "Our assumption is that Russia is responsible for most of these drone operations."
