Afghanistan, June 2 -- The United Nations said Afghanistan's humanitarian response plan remains severely underfunded, with only $269 million received as of last month, representing just 16% of the $1.71 billion required for aid operations in 2026.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the widening funding gap is placing life-saving assistance at risk and could leave millions of vulnerable Afghans without critical support.
In a statement posted on X, OCHA said urgent financial contributions are needed to sustain humanitarian programmes across the country.
"Without immediate funding, millions of people in Afghanistan could lose access to essential humanitarian assistance," the agency said.
