Afghanistan, May 9 -- Dennis Coyle said he spent 14 months in detention in Afghanistan without formal charges, describing the experience as politically motivated and emotionally difficult.

In an interview reported by NewsNation, Coyle said he was detained from his apartment in Kabul in January 2025 and transferred to an undisclosed location, where he remained without clear legal proceedings.

He said Taliban authorities never formally accused him of any crime and denied him contact with his family for the first five months of detention. According to Coyle, the first message he received from relatives came through a letter sent by his sister.
