Afghanistan, March 30 -- At least 28 people have been killed and 49 others injured in Afghanistan after days of heavy rain triggered flash floods, landslides and lightning strikes across several provinces, officials said Monday.

Yousuf Hammad, spokesman for the national disaster authority, said the extreme weather has affected 1,130 families since March 26, damaging homes, roads, farmland and public infrastructure.

He said 568 homes were fully or partially destroyed, along with 10 shops, while floods and landslides also damaged 24 water sources, 53 water supply networks and 93 kilometres of roads in affected areas.
