Afghanistan, Aug. 18 -- A major fire at a fuel storage depot near Sulaimaniyah in Iraq's Kurdistan region injured at least 20 people and destroyed dozens of fuel tankers, according to local reports.
The fire broke out shortly before midnight at a storage facility in the Tanjaro area, a major fuel distribution hub near the city. Several explosions were reported as flames spread through the facility. Al Jazeera reported that there were no deaths and that most of the injuries were minor.
Local reports said 34 gasoline tankers and four diesel tankers were destroyed, while more than 3 million litres of fuel were consumed by the fire. Other reports put the number of destroyed tankers at 38, while officials continued to assess the damage.
