Afghanistan, July 13 -- FIFA will consider a proposal to expand the 2030 FIFA World Cup from 48 to 64 teams after the conclusion of the 2026 tournament, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, while stressing that no decision has been made.
Speaking to Swiss newspaper Blick on Sunday, July 12, Infantino said the proposal would be reviewed through FIFA's governance process before any decision is taken.
"The World Cup should belong to the whole world, not only Europe and South America," Infantino said, arguing that every nation should have a realistic opportunity to qualify for football's flagship tournament.
