Afghanistan, Sept. 24 -- An exiled Afghan media group has urged Pakistan to immediately stop arresting and deporting Afghan journalists, warning that forced returns endanger their safety and undermine press freedom.
An Afghan media organisation in exile has strongly condemned the arrest of journalist Jawad Etimad in Islamabad, urging Pakistan to halt the detention and deportation of Afghan media workers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organisation said Etimad was taken into custody by Islamabad police after his residence visa had expired. Authorities have indicated that he could soon be deported to Afghanistan.
