Afghanistan, June 7 -- The European Union has nominated Nicola Bellomo as its new charge d'affaires for Afghanistan, as the bloc continues its diplomatic engagement with the country amid a deepening humanitarian crisis and ongoing concerns over human rights.

The European External Action Service (EEAS) announced the appointment as part of a broader reshuffle approved by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, which includes 33 new ambassadors and seven deputy heads of mission across the bloc's diplomatic network.

Bellomo, who previously oversaw African affairs within the EU's foreign policy apparatus and served as the bloc's ambassador to Rwanda, is expected to replace current charge d'affaires Veronika Boskovic Pohar in Kabul. The nomination...
