Afghanistan, July 2 -- An England football fan has spent £40,000 he had saved for a house deposit to travel with his father to the FIFA World Cup, saying he chose to invest in a once-in-a-lifetime experience rather than buying a home.

Jack Goodwin, from Chichester in West Sussex, told British media that he had saved the money over several years but decided to use it to follow the England national team throughout the tournament. He said he does not have a wife or children and wanted to create lasting memories with his father.

Goodwin said he purchased tickets, flights and hotel reservations in advance for England's matches, including plans to attend the World Cup final in New Jersey should the team qualify.
