Afghanistan, Oct. 26 -- Germany has deported over 17,000 migrants this year and state leaders are urging the resumption of returns to Afghanistan and Syria, drawing human rights concerns.

Germany deported more than 17,000 migrants between January and September 2025, marking a 20% increase compared to the same period last year, German media reported on Saturday.

Most deportees were sent back to Turkey and Georgia, with one in five being a child or teenager, according to the reports.

The rise in removals comes as state premiers have called for the federal government to resume deportations of Afghan and Syrian nationals, particularly those convicted of crimes or deemed security threats.
