Afghanistan, Sept. 5 -- A routine backyard renovation in northern Denmark has led to the discovery of the country's largest Viking Age silver hoard, with archaeologists uncovering nearly 18.5 kilograms of silver artefacts dating back to the 10th century. Experts say the find offers rare insight into Viking trade, wealth and connections stretching from the Middle East to Britain.
According to Danish cultural authorities and archaeologists from Nordjyske Museer, the treasure was discovered after a homeowner in the Rebild area accidentally struck buried metal objects while preparing the garden for a new terrace. The discovery prompted an archaeological excavation that revealed around 700 silver artefacts hidden beneath the property.
