Afghanistan, Aug. 23 -- A Chinese humanoid robot developed by smartphone maker Honor has run 100 metres in 9.32 seconds, beating Usain Bolt's 9.58-second human world record in a preparatory test ahead of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.
The robot, named Lightning, achieved the reported time during a test before the games opened on Saturday, August 22, 2026, according to China's state broadcaster. It reached a peak speed of 14.5 metres per second.
Bolt's 9.58-second record was set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin and remains the official human 100-metre world record. Lightning's performance was a robot test and does not change the recognised athletics record.
