Afghanistan, June 7 -- U.S. forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones over the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday after they posed a threat to international maritime traffic, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said, marking the latest escalation in a growing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
In a statement, CENTCOM said American forces operating in the Middle East intercepted and destroyed the drones to protect civilian shipping and military personnel in the strategically important waterway.
"The drones posed a threat to international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said, adding that U.S. forces remain on high alert and prepared to respond to further hostile actions.
